Overview

Our community, Quetzaltenango, is located in a rural region of Guatemala with very limited access to resources, particularly healthcare. To address this challenge, we created an affordable medical clinic to service the community with a model of providing an opportunity for visiting healthcare professional students to deliver clinical services and improve their medical Spanish. ​​

​With the help of local medical professionals and the students in the Medical Spanish Program, Pop Wuj runs a medical clinic two-three days per week. The clinic is free to all individuals who participate in Pop Wuj’s other projects. Other patients are charged a small fee per visit, which includes consultation with the doctor as well as medication as needed.

Impact

Since its founding in 2002, the Pop Wuj clinic has positively impacted Xela and its many surrounding communities. Many patients travel up to 3 hours from rural towns to receive free/discounted and high quality healthcare from our clinic with all medications and equipment funded by donations.
