According to the WHO, communicable, maternal, perinatal, and nutritional conditions contribute to 25% of deaths in Guatemala. To help tackle this issue, Pop Wuj launched the Nutrition Project in collaboration with Chuicaracoj's public school in 2019 to promote healthier lifestyles among the students. Every month, the Nutrition Project team performs two visits to the school to:
Determine the general health of each child through conducting physical exams and providing medicine, if needed.
Educate the children on general health, proper nutrition and hygiene.
In addition to these visits, this program provides general health necessities such as bottled water, toothbrushes, toothpaste, fruits, vegetables, and incaparina (a high quality protein vegetable cereal) to children of the school.
At Pop Wuj, we serve to create meaningful differences across all levels in the community, especially for young children. Since the 2019 launch of the Nutrition Project, children and families of the Chuicaracoj's community have achieved improved healthcare, nutrition, and education. Pop Wuj's Nutrition Project:
Provides medical attention to 17 children on a monthly basis
Provided medical attention to other members of the children’s family
Distributed 400 pounds of Incaparina, 150 pounds of sugar, fruits, vegetables, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and bottled water in 2019
Led over 15 educational presentations on general health
