According to the WHO, communicable, maternal, perinatal, and nutritional conditions contribute to 25% of deaths in Guatemala. To help tackle this issue, Pop Wuj launched the Nutrition Project in collaboration with Chuicaracoj's public school in 2019 to promote healthier lifestyles among the students. Every month, the Nutrition Project team performs two visits to the school to:
Determine the general health of each child through conducting physical exams and providing medicine, if needed.
Educate the children on general health, proper nutrition and hygiene.
In addition to these visits, this program provides general health necessities such as bottled water, toothbrushes, toothpaste, fruits, vegetables, and incaparina (a high quality protein vegetable cereal) to children of the school.
