Spanish Courses

Pop Wuj offers 5 distinct
Spanish Language Immersion study, two Spanish courses geared for students and professionals in the fields of Medicine / Healthcare and Social Work / Community Development, a Spanish Immersion Program designed for teachers to gain teaching experience in a Spanish environment and an Excursion Program

that expands the immersion course to include cultural field trips.
All Spanish courses feature volunteer work projects while the Medical Spanish, Social Work and Spanish for teachers programs provide students with specific field placement and supervision in their professional practices.

Our teaching style is one-to-one. The formal classes in Spanish are given five hours a day, five days a week. During the rest of the day and in the evening, the school offers a variety of activities that are designed to teach students something about Guatemalan and Latin American culture, or just to provide entertainment.

Spanish Immersion Course

Includes:

Medical Spanish Program

Includes:

○	4h Daily - One-to-One Spanish Instruction with supplemental curriculum for medical Spanish

○	2-5h a Day - Participation in the Medical Spanish Program

○	Lecture on cultural competencies for one week in addition to the One-to-One Spanish Instruction

○	Clinical experience in the Pop Wuj Clinic (suitable for elective rotation)

○	Spanish School Activities (except transportation / entrance fees)

Price:

○	Low Season* - 250,- USD per Week Currency Converter ?

○	One time registration fee 150,- USD

The cost of the Medical Spanish program and its registration fee is slightly higher than that of the Spanish Immersion Course. Part of the extra money serves to offset the additional costs of medical conferences, materials and scheduling. The remainder is put into a fund supporting the Pop Wuj Medical Clinic.

Please not that our Medical Spanish Program is already fully booked from the 18th of June until the 13th of July 2012. However, all other programs are still available. Instead of the Medical Spanish Program, we can offer our “Alternative Medical Spanish Program” which offers everything what is included in the Medical Spanish Program beside a placement in the Pop-Wuj Clinic. This includes especially public health in the rural communities, one week lectures on cultural competencies and weekly conferences with specialization on western and traditional medicine. We offer the “Alternative Medical Spanish Program” at a reduced price of 260,- USD per week and the registration form of the Medical Spanish Program can be used for enrolment. Social Work Program

Includes:

Part of the extra money serves to offset the additional costs of cultural competency lectures, materials and scheduling. The remainder is put into a fund to support the Pop Wuj Social Work Program. Classes run Monday through Friday, with morning or afternoon sessions. We recommend a minimum of three weeks for maximum benefit. However, depending on your goals, your current level of expertise and/or innate abilities, you may wish to stay for shorter or longer periods. One to two weeks can certainly be enough time to dust off high school or college Spanish, improve grammar and vocabulary and be introduced to a fascinating country and culture. Longer stays, if you have the available time, can give one mastery and fluency. How much fluency you develop naturally would depend, in part, on your inherent abilities, determination and commitment as well as how much you stay focused. There are many opportunities to practice with teachers and your host family.

Our teachers are college educated and trained as instructors of Spanish as a second language. They are able to teach at all levels and can assist students in developing vocabularies in a variety of disciplines, such as Spanish Medical Terminology, social work, education.

Our school is nonprofit and all our earnings are donated to a variety of community development projects in which the students are welcome to participate.

Note: The Medical, Social, Spanish for Teachers and Excursion program include all that the Spanish Immersion Course consists of in addition to the unique focus that each of these specialized programs offer their participants.

Spanish for Teachers

Includes:

○	4h Daily - intensive One-to-One Spanish focused on technical education vocabulary with a teacher specialized in the language

○	4h Daily - observation and/or hands-on practice in an urban or rural classroom starting the second week

○	Techniques and methods of teaching, lesson planning, objectives, activities, and evaluations

○	Lectures targeting cultural competencies for one week that include themes about Guatemala and Latin America, issues pertaining to the culture, economy, education, and history of the country; planning and evaluation

○	Cultural immersion through a Homestay with a Guatemalan family in a private room with three meals a day, safe drinking water, a hot shower and constant practice of the language
